Sage Accounting AI reporting
Ask questions about your Sage Accounting data in plain English: which customer invoices are unpaid, which supplier invoices fall due, and the balance on every account. It works with Sage Accounting in South Africa and in the UK, Ireland and Canada. Every figure links to the Sage record it came from, and Synaptic Intelligence only reads.
What you can ask about your Sage data
- Which customer invoices are still unpaid, and which are past their due date?
- Which supplier invoices do we still have to pay this month?
- How much did we invoice customers last month, against the month before?
- Who were our ten biggest customers by invoiced value this year?
- What balance does each account carry, and which expense accounts are largest?
Sage Accounting has no profit and loss report to read. Outside South Africa you can still ask for profit over a period, such as last quarter: it is added up from the account balances for that period, and the answer says so. The South African edition carries each account's current balance, so its answers about a period come from the invoices.
Sage beside your other systems
Do the fees Takealot charged us last quarter match the Takealot invoices in Sage?
- Sales & Ops reads the fees from your Takealot seller account: success, fulfilment, storage and the rest.
- Finance reads the supplier invoices from Takealot captured in Sage for the same months.
- The answer shows both totals. Where they differ, it says which it used and what the difference suggests, such as an invoice not yet captured.
That question consults two departments and reconciles their answers, so it costs four credits. A question only Finance needs costs one.
Which Sage, and how you connect it
Sage runs two separate cloud accounting platforms, and both connect.
South Africa. Sage Business Cloud Accounting, the edition you sign in to at accounting.sageone.co.za. Sage's South African platform has no sign-in for connected apps, so it connects with a Sage login: paste it into the card, test it, and choose which company to read. The safest login is a user you add in Sage with a view-only role and access to only the companies you want read. What that user's role allows is all that can be read, and the password is stored encrypted and never shown again.
The UK, Ireland and Canada. An admin clicks Connect with Sage, signs in and approves read-only access. If the login covers several businesses, you choose one. The permission asked for is Sage's own read-only one, so the connection cannot make changes.
Either way, the connection has to answer a real request before Finance uses it, and Synaptic Intelligence never sends Sage a change. Sage's desktop and larger products, such as Sage 50cloud Pastel, Sage 200 and Sage X3, are separate systems that do not connect; Sage Intacct is on the roadmap.
For IT and security: what each edition is given
South Africa: Sage's v2 API at accounting.sageone.co.za, signed in as the Sage user you provide, with a developer key Sage South Africa issued to Synaptic Intelligence. Requests are reads only, and each names the company you chose.
International: OAuth 2.0 with the scope readonly, the narrowest Sage offers. Every request names the business you chose, so a figure is never read from another business the same login can see.
Which department it feeds
Sage feeds your Finance department: the ledger, receivables and payables. Finance owns the word revenue, so when another system reports a different revenue figure, the answer says whose is the real one.
Each person sees Finance's answers only if their job title allows it.
Plans
Each system you connect counts once. Starter and the free trial include three connected systems, Growth five, and Team, Business and Enterprise as many as you need. Reading answers is free for everyone; asking uses credits. See pricing.
Other systems
Thinking of connecting ChatGPT or Claude to Sage yourself? Build or buy: what it involves. And for why two systems can both be right about one figure, why HR says 41 and payroll says 43.
